LUCID 14 inch plush memory foam

About half a year ago, LUCID upgraded LUCID 14 Inch Plush Memory Foam Mattress and changed its composition. Therefore it’s important to note that customer reviews before 2016 are about the old version and they can’t tell how the new one is accurately and completely. The original 14 inch plush memory foam mattress consists of 1″ bamboo charcoal layer, 3″ comfort memory foam layer, 2″ support foam layer and 8″ foam base; The newly upgraded version is featuring 1″ bamboo charcoal layer, 3″ gel memory foam layer and 10″ high density foam base. According to that, you can find they exchanged regular memory foam with gel-infused foam helping keep sleepers cool and removed extra comfort layer in the middle and thickened support base to 10 inches. That’s what LUCID made change on. The upgraded model is still a plush or soft mattress, medium to soft exactly. The upgrade reduces sinking depth from 6 to 4 inches to avoid bottoming out experience and abandons regular foam and adds cooling gel foam to the mattress to prevent heat retention. Overall, new LUCID 14 inch plush mattress is a significant upgrade over the original one.

Features of LUCID 14-Inch Plush Memory Foam Mattress

Is it firm or soft? 4-5 (softest to firmest from 1 to 10)

It’s a mattress on soft side from the day he was manufactured. They hide relatively firmer 3 lb density gel foam in the center and put a softer 1-inch bamboo charcoal layer on the top. The top layer is  working as a pillow top to add more plush and soft feel to make sleeper feel like floating on a cloud. The mattress will allow you sink 4 inches at most to enjoy comfy sleep and provide mild support for your curves, then let you land on 10 inch foam base to get firmest support.

Help bad back

For back pain, it doesn’t matter if the bed is firm or plush. Firm bed doesn’t mean help for bad back and a soft bed doesn’t worsen pain. What matters most is if your body feels comfortable on a bed. 14″ LUCID mattress cashmere covered mattress is more on the softer side so that people who get used to a plush bed will find it very comfortable. Meanwhile, the mattress will provides both comfy conformability for the whole body and targeted support for lower back.

Soft sleepers will like

LUCID 14-inch mattress is a great mattress best-suited for persons who prefer a soft bed. The top plush memory foam layer and 3″ soft memory foam layer allow sleepers to sink into it and make sleepers feel like sleeping on a cloud. Such a thick soft mattress offers heavy sleepers floating and comfortable experience. However, even light persons will find this to be truly comfy. People who like a firm bed should consider the firm version of 14″ LUCID by LinenSpa.

Impressive price

LUCID mattresses always make a strong impression on consumers. Nearly all owners of 14″ LUCID mention its impressive price. That’s a primary reason they give it a try. This bed costs about $100 more than the same size of the 3-layers firm version (check out the price). But compared to Tempurpedic cloudlux, it is about 1/6 that price and still very affordable.

No motion transfer

When you lay on this LUCID bed, it will absorb all pressure from your body and form an individual impression. That said, your partner doesn’t receive any movements you make. For example, your wife or hubby doesn’t feel you roll over and get out of the bed. It also doesn’t create any noise waking up the other.

Issues of LUCID 14″ Plush Memory Foam Mattress

Not good for non sleep activities

Since the memory foam bed absorbs body pressure, it forms a body impression and doesn’t restore to its original shape quickly. So it isn’t as bouncy as the spring mattress.

Very heavy

The 14″ mattress is very thick and heavy. You’d better get some friends to help you put the mattress on the frame.

Too soft

A few owners complained it was too soft and let them sink in too much. They felt heavy parts like hips fall into it like a rock.

LUCID 14 Inch Plush memory foam mattress VS LUCID 14 Inch Gel memory foam mattress

14″ LUCID Plush Memory Foam Mattress is a plush version of two LUCID 14-inch mattresses and the other is firmer. Two beds are made with same materials and their differences lie in layers. Both have bamboo charcoal infused foam layer and gel foam layer. Different from Plush, Gel is featuring 3″ gel memory foam layer, 2″ bamboo charcoal layer, and 9″ foam base. They place gel foam layer on top to contact sleeper’s skin directly. In this way, the mattress reduces body heat and has a better air circulation. It’s better than the way placing gel foam in the center far from sleeper’s body. You need to know, gel memory foam is the most effective way to reduce body heat currently. If you’re a hot sleeper, it’s not wise to choose the mattress hiding its gel foam. Especially people weighing above the average are more likely to sleep hot as they sink in more and more heat need to dissipate. If you’re not, that would not be a problem.

Density is another difference between the firm gel model and Plush model. LUCID 14 inch Gel memory foam has a 5.3 lb high density gel memory foam. Although LUCID doesn’t state density of Plush gel memory foam, we think it’s still 3 lbs as they told the old version was using 3 lbs memory foam. Generally, the higher the density is, the longer the mattress will last and the better it will perform at all aspects, such as pain relief and motion limitation.

Hi, I’m thinking about buying 14″ Lucid memory foam to replace my old mattress. But I’m afraid of getting hot and sweat at night as I know it’s a biggest issue this type of mattress has. Summer is comming so temperature is an essential factor I have to consider.

      Hi Julienne,
It’s hard to say if you will sleep hot on the mattress. Some people say it’s ok but some not. If you have a normal temperature while sleeping, I think it’s ok. But if you’re hot sleeper, it’s necessary to buy a cotton pad or cover and that helps lower temperature. Actually, most people don’t have that problem since we have A/C on in hot days. If you use air conditioner, you don’t need to worry about it.

  4. Dolores Hofmann says:

I heard it’s hard to turn over on memory foam mattress. Is it true? My wife is pregnant and sometimes she needs me to help turn over or get up.

    • admin says:

Yeah, the mattress retains your body impression on the mattress for a while after changing position so it’s more difficult to turn over or move than other types of mattress. Most pregnant women don’t have the problem and I suggest you go to local store to try some memory foam mattresses.
