lucid mattress

If you tend to buy a new mattress with thick support layer and gel memory foam cooling layer, new LUCID 14-inch memory foam mattress is something you should consider. 9 inches support layer, 3 inches ventilated middle layer and 2 inches gel foam comfort layer definitely give what you need. As firmness grade, LUCID put this bed in the soft category but owners put in firm. People who need enough support don’t need to be concerned for that and they don’t sink too much into the mattress. Since LUCID isn’t a big brand and it doesn’t pay too much for advertisement, the price is reasonable and unbeatable. It’s just 1/10 the price of the Tempurpedic bed. If you are a person like me who want to buy an economical mattress, LUCID 14 inches mattress will not disappoint you.

About six months ago, LUCID updated several mattresses and made some changes and LUCID 14 inch memory foam mattress is one of them. The new model is a gel memory foam mattress, to be more exact. The old one is made with 2-inch regular memory foam which is more likely to make people sleep hot. After updated, this 14 inch LUCID mattress is using 3-inch cooling gel infused foam as the top layer to improve performance in regulating temperature. Second layer changes regular memory foam to ventilated bamboo charcoal memory foam to increase ventilation. LUCID removes the old cashmere cover and uses new breathable TENCEL cover instead. All these changes make it a cool mattress with great breathability. It would be first choice for people who need a mattress not holding much body heat. There is something in it LUCID don’t change like 5 pounds density of top layer. Such high density gel foam makes sure people enjoy superior comfort and support. However, this mattress has a lot to improve and learn more details from this review. Click here to check out price of latest model

Features of LUCID 14-inch memory foam mattress

First question: firm or soft? 7 or 8 (1-10 softest to firmest)

LUCID official report says this 14 inch memory foam mattress isn’t on the firm side and feels softer than other LUCID models. And when you check the customer reviews you will find some owners complain it’s overly firm as a rock but some other feels too soft. Firm or soft, in the final analysis, has everything to do with personal preference. Most owners agree LUCID 14 inch memory foam mattress is a firm model. As the memory foam is 5.3lb dense, lots of owners feel firm support just right. The first layer is gel memory foam increases the firmness to some extent and makes people feel firm. That’s because gel infused foam usually feels firmer than regular memory foam. But the firmness is still on acceptable level. It’s firm but still a little soft like some firm mattresses out there. Therefore, you will find many people mention it’s firm but not concrete like.

Stay cool?

Some owners find LUCID 14 inch memory foam mattress gets warm in hot days and cool in cold days. When the bed gets warm and retains heat the bed softens; but when it feels too cool it gets firmer. That is because this mattress uses 5.3lb high dense memory foam. And the denser the foam is the more temperature sensitive it is. The good part is it’s not overheating, just gets warm. To solve the heat retention problem, LUCID replaced 2 inch regular memory foam with 2-inch gel-infused memory foam on top. That will definitely have positive influence on temperature under your body. It emits heat and warmth quickly and prevents you from heating and burning by your body heat. Gel foam can help reduce heat retention and regulate temperature on the mattress surface but you shouldn’t expect it make you cool in summer and cold in winter. Sleepers especially the hot sleepers who suffer from night sweaty don’t wake up sweating.

High density gel foam

The mattress uses 5.3 lbs high density gel memory foam and that’s not common among entry-level foam market. Compared to low density like 3 lbs to 4 lbs, high density foam is more durable and lasts longer. It does better in conforming to your body, removing pressure points and relieving pain in back, shoulders and hips. It’s quieter and hardly making noise when you do anything other on the mattress or get out of it.

Comfort & pain relief

LUCID 14-inch mattress uses dual comfort layers that are made of high density foam. People who weigh above average may find it more supportive than the thinner bed. The high dense and thicker comfort layer can helps the whole body sink into bed and get amazing comfort as well as support. Due to the 5.3lb density foam, the bed puts every part of the body where it is supposed to be and keeps them on the same flat. That said, users don’t feel the pressure points or toss and turn throughout the night to get a comfortable position. They can wake up pain free in the morning.

Limited motion transfer

LUCID 14-inch mattress also does a great trick in isolating motion transfer. The bed absorbs the pressure and prevents the motion delivery. That means when you make movements on the bed, your sleeping partner doesn’t feel it. You don’t need to worry about disturbing his or her sleep.

Unbeatable Price

The primary reason customers buy LUCID 14 inch mattress is its reasonable price. It provides the similar comfort and firmness as the name brand but sells at a fairly low price. The bed with the same dense and thickness costs at least five times as much. LUCID offers an affordable option for the person who doesn’t want to spring grand on a bed.

Issues of LUCID 14-inch memory foam mattress

New paint-like smell

One thing you should know that the mattress has a new paint odor when you pull it out of the box and the high priced ones are no exception. Just let it air out for a few days.

Something needs to improve

After investigated negative owner reports, we found some customers’ LUCID 14 inch mattresses lack consistency of quality. Their mattresses started to sag where people sleep and lose firmness after one or two years. Some of them failed to make a warranty claim and had to throw the mattress away. Buyers are very disappointed and don’t want to buy a LUCID product again. Actually, LUCID should be to blame for all these things. They don’t have a strict quality control on their China made mattresses, resulting in defective mattresses. And LUCID don’t show us buyers all details of warranty like what we do will void the warranty and affect mattress durability. We think LUCID should be responsible for customer loss.

LUCID 14-inch memory foam mattress is a firm mattress. It’s an awesome choice for people who need adequate support, especially for people suffering from back pain. If you like a soft bed, there are some better options on the market.

LUCID 14 Inch Mattress VS LUCID 16 Inch Mattress

Firmness

LUCID 16 inch mattress is the thicker version of 14 inch plush mattress. LUCID just inserted a 2-inch latex foam between 3-inch gel memory foam and 10-inch base foam. Both mattresses would feel same, medium not too soft or firm. Compared with 16 inch, LUCID 14 inch mattress of regular version feels firmer. If you like firm mattress, it’s more likely to have better experience on this 14 inch version.

Latex allergy

LUCID 14-inch mattress doesn’t include any latex inside. For people allergic to latex, it’s safe. Although latex foam layer is buried under the gel memory layer and we don’t have direct contact with it, it’s still a potential allergic source.

Which feels warmer

LUCID 14-inch mattress has 32-inch gel memory foam on top so it tends to transmit body heat quickly to other layers and avoid heat retention underneath your body. 16 inch plush is added 1-inch Bamboo Charcoal memory foam above gel foam. Its efficiency of heat transmission is lower than 14-inch version. But that doesn’t mean you definitely don’t feel warm on it. You may also sleep hot but less likely. It’s a matter of probability.

I want to buy a new mattress but I’m not rich. I can’t decide on two mattresses: one with foam topper, 2″ latex and 6″ memory foam ($700); the other memory foam with a latex topper ($550). Will the one with latex topper hold up?

    • admin says:

Hi Emma, you didn’t give enough details about the second one so it’s hard to say which one holds up better. But if they are same quality, I always choose the mattress with latex we can lay on physically. I mean the one with latex topper. But I still need more info, thickness, density, latex material, etc. the more the better.
